Frequently Asked Questions

Free, Really? I don't believe you.
Zip. Nada. Zilch. Zero. Nothing. tXt_blaster is a free service. Standard charges from your carrier to send and receive tXt messages might still apply if you don't have a bulk messaging plan. What, you were expecting them to let you use it for free, too?

What if I'm afraid of annoying my group members with tXt messages they don't want to receive?
No need to worry, tXt_blaster has you covered. Members must opt-in to your group or accept your invitation in order to join your group. So, you will never have anyone in your group who doesn't want to be there. If an existing member decides your messages are lame and wants to opt-out of your list, all they do is tXt "Stop" to BLAST (25278).
* If you want to receive AWESOME (as opposed to LAME) messages, have your group leader contact us and we'll enroll them in a "How to write cool tXt messages" seminar.

What are keywords? And how do they work?
A keyword is one word that uniquely identifies your group or subgroup. A keyword does not contain spaces and is less than 15 characters long. Publishers - members who send messages - create a keyword that fits their group or subgroup. Members - those who receive messages - join groups by tXting the keyword to BLAST (25278).

Why do I receive (or send) my tXt_blaster messages from 25278?
That's our short code - kinda like a regular phone number, but only for tXt messages. Ours is especially nifty because 25278 spells out "BLAST" on your phone's keypad. Clever? We think so. BLAST (25278) is our only short code and we'll never contact you with a different number.

Can I pick my group's keyword or does tXt_blaster do it for me?
At tXt_blaster we believe in freedom. It's how we roll. So, yes, you can pick your own keyword -- so long as no one else at your college or university has beaten you to it.

Will I ever receive messages from groups I'm not a member of?
Nope. You must confirm any tXt_blaster invitations before you are added to a group. You will receive an automatic reply with instructions on how to confirm your subscription. You will never receive a tXt_blaster message without having specifically opted in to receive messages from that group. We promise.

Can I send messages to my group from my phone? Or do I have to use the website?
Of course! That's the whole point, isn't it? Free, Instant, Mobile? One thing, though - to send messages to a group, you have to be a publisher of that group. You're not a publisher for your group, you say? Ask for privileges from a person who is. Or better yet, heck with them - start your own group.

How do I send messages to my group from my cell phone?
Send a message with 2 quick steps!
  1. Grab your cell phone and type a tXt message (make sure it's less than 100 characters long).
  2. Send your tXt message to our short code, which is BLAST (25278).
Note: If you are a publisher of more than one group or subgroups, prefix your message with the keyword. Why do this? Well, if you have multiple groups/subgroups and you do not prefix your message with your keyword, tXt_blaster will write you back and ask who should get your message. Then, you have to respond. So, if you want to save time and only send 1 outgoing tXt message, then prefix it with the keyword.
For Example: I want to send a message to my "Awesome tXt_blasters" group, and my keyword is "Awesome". The message I send to BLAST (25278) looks like this: "Awesome Thanks for being such great tXt_blaster users! You guys are great!"

I belong to more than one group. Can I get messages from all of them?
Yes - you can be the publisher for some and a member of many, and vice versa. Each group and subgroup has its own keyword.

I run more than one group. Do I need a separate account for each group? And is there a limit to how many groups for which I can set up keywords?
Nope. And nope.

I'm currently receiving messages from a group leader, but I'm over it! How do I stop receiving messages from that leader or group?
Stopping is just as easy as starting. Simply tXt "STOP" to BLAST (25278). If you belong to more than one group we'll send you a list of groups and you can pick the one(s) you want to remove yourself from. Or you can ask a publisher to delete you from their group/subgroup.

Is it possible to access a message without being part of a group?
Yes! If someone in a tXt_blaster group has created an "Auto-responder" you can access the message by tXting the keyword to BLAST (25278). An Auto-responder is a message created on our site that can be updated at anytime. When you tXt the keyword to BLAST, the message is automatically sent to your cell phone.

I'm a publisher and would like to know how to use the "Auto-responder" feature.
If you have a message you want anyone to access without having to send it to them, create an Auto-responder. An Auto-responder is a message tXt_blaster saves for you. You can update this message at any time and as frequently as you like. Anyone can receive your Auto-responder message by tXting its keyword to BLAST (25278), and it gets sent directly to their cell phone without them having to join any of your groups.
Examples of situations where Auto-responders come in handy:
Flyers: Put a message like this on flyers you put up around campus - "For more info about our Halloween Haunted House, tXt "Haunted" to BLAST (25278)." Games: Create an Auto-responder with the score of a big game and keep updating it. This works great for not just the general public, but for traveling teams who don't have access to the score of their rivals' big game.

I'm a member of a group on campus that uses tXt_blaster and I want to be part of their tXt_blaster group. How do I do that?
Follow these 3 steps:
  1. Ask the person who sends tXt_blaster messages to your group for the keyword
  2. Text the keyword to BLAST (25278)
  3. Respond to the confirmation message

How do you guys make tXt_blaster free?
Simple: you get the first 100 characters of every message you send through our system and we get the last 60 into which we place an advertisement -- one we think will be relevant to the members of your student group or club. How many characters do you need? The average tXt message is 30 to 40 characters in length. Feeling long-winded? Go for it. Write a 100-character novel. There's room.

Advertisements? I'm scared.
Not to worry: before placing advertisements in your messages we guarantee they're ads your mother would love if she saw them. Needless to say we stay away from porn, adult products, alcohol, tobacco and guns.

Who do I talk to when there's a problem?
tXt_blaster is owned and operated by a small group of cool people based in San Francisco. We don't have call centers in India and we religiously respond to our users. Talk to us!
